Position Title: Director-Donor Appeals & Stewardship

Department:  NMU Foundation

Term of Assignment: Continuing

Term End Date, If Applicable:             

FLSA Status:   Exempt = not eligible for overtime

Work Schedule: Traditionally Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with occasional evening and weekend work required.

Salary: Targeted Salary Range: $56,800-$61,000

Travel: Less than 10%

Brief Statement of Duties

Brief Statement of Duties: Responsible for strategic management and coordination of university annual giving solicitations and donor-centered stewardship programs. Oversee direct mail, email, social media, donor recognition societies, donor acknowledgements, stewardship reports and other donor communication as needed.

Develop and execute the vision for annual giving and donor relations, expanding and enhancing giving and stewardship at all donor levels, including annual, major, and planned gifts. Ensure consistent protocols for acknowledging, celebrating, and communicating donor impact, while cultivating a pipeline of support for annual gift efforts. Provide leadership to the Foundation team to implement donor acknowledgements, scholarship stewardship, and recognition initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree

Required Specialized Training/Certifications: 

Required Minimum Work Experience:  Three years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising, donor relations, alumni relations, public relations, marketing, event planning/management, or a related communications field.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties: 

Knowledge of solicitation techniques, donor stewardship, and fundraising principles and policies.
Awareness of trends and best practices in annual giving and donor relations.
Strong oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to independently initiate and manage complex programs and multiple priorities.
Experience with databases and donor management systems (CRM), including extracting, analyzing, and reporting data.
Ability to handle sensitive personal and financial information confidentially.
Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse constituency (donors, alumni, faculty, staff, students, trustees, vendors).
Capacity to set and meet fundraising goals and reporting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work evenings and weekends for events as required.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

Additional Desirable Qualifications: 

Experience in higher education fundraising or donor relations.
Experience with relational database software, data analysis, and volunteer or student engagement.
