Position Title: Network Infrastructure Support Specialist

Department:  Network Infrastructure Center

Term of Assignment: Continuing

Term End Date, If Applicable:             

FLSA Status:   Exempt = not eligible for overtime

Work Schedule: Traditionally Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm with occasional evening
and weekend work required

Salary: Targeted salary range: $57,035-$60,400

Travel: Less than 10%

Brief Statement of Duties

Brief Statement of Duties: Oversee the day-to-day operations and student support staff. Provide hands-on problem resolution and ensure customer service excellence. Provide technical and general support to users, either internal or external, regarding software, hardware, or other IT related issues which includes troubleshooting problems, installing and configuring systems, and ensuring customer satisfaction. Resolve document issues, track progress, and escalate complex problems when necessary. Work will be performed at NMU on-campus and off-site locations.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: High School Graduation or Equivalent

Discipline/Degree Area: 

Required Specialized Training/Certifications:  Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, continued education, and/or experience.
Valid motor vehicle operator's license.

Required Minimum Work Experience:  Experience installing and maintaining telecommunications and network equipment.
Experience in a help desk or customer support role

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties: 

Basic knowledge of network switching and routing as well as basic knowledge of TCP/IP and IP addressing.
Basic knowledge and understanding of network VLAN.
Basic knowledge of network and telephony cabling, including both copper and fiber based cable plants. Possess an understanding of the infrastructure, hardware, and software required for networking.
Ability to multitask and prioritize work.
Strong analytical and problem-solving aptitude.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Attention to detail.
Ability to work with others in a team.
Physical capability to perform all of duties and responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodation which includes sitting, standing, climbing, reaching, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Possess grip strength and dexterity to safely and effectively work with hand and power tools. Ability to balance on ladders of lifts and work in small or confined spaces.
Ability to follow safety and security protocol.
Attention to detail.
Ability to provide exceptional customer service to faculty, staff and students.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

Additional Desirable Qualifications: 

Experience with network cabling, pulling, termination, and testing.
Familiarity with Windows, MacOS and UNIX based servers and clients.
Online safety training including ladder safety, scissor lift safety and workplace injury prevention.
