Work Schedule: Traditionally Monday-Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm
One position available with the potential to be filled at any of the listed levels consistent with the selected applicant's experience. Levels include: Plumber/Pipefitter/HVAC Repair or Senior Plumber/Pipefitter/HVAC Repair.
Salary: Plumber/Pipefitter/HVAC Repair $24.85 starting/$26.16 working; Senior Plumber/Pipefitter/HVAC Repair $26.85 starting/$28.19. working
Travel: No travel
Brief Statement of Duties: Under general supervision, provide skills and engage in technical maintenance repair and renovation work in and around university buildings.
Required Education: High School Graduation or Equivalent
Discipline/Degree Area:
Required Specialized Training/Certifications: Plumber/Pipefitter/HVAC Repair and Senior Plumber/Pipefitter/HVAC Repair
Current journeyman plumber license in the State of Michigan.
Current and valid motor vehicle operator's license.
Senior Plumber/Pipefitter/HVAC Repair
Current Approved/Certified Backflow Preventer Assemblies Tester in the State of Michigan.
Special training in steam trap surveying, testing utilizing diagnostic equipment, and repairing.
Required Minimum Work Experience: Plumber/Pipefitter/HVAC Repair
Two years of experience in the plumbing or pipefitting trade to include the servicing of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, steam, domestic and hydronic water, air, condensate and/or sewage systems and equipment.
Senior Plumber/Pipefitter/HVAC Repair
Five years of experience in the plumbing or pipefitting trade to include the servicing of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, steam, domestic and hydronic water, air, condensate and/or sewage systems and equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties:
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of relevant plumbing, pipefitting, and HVAC system installations, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance including air handling units, pumping systems, air compressors, steam and hot water systems, steam traps, domestic water systems, plumbing fixtures, heat exchangers, etc.
Knowledge of building and construction materials, methods, and tools involved in construction.
Knowledge of plumbing, mechanical and ventilation codes and design and engineering principles involved in production of technical plans and drawings.
General knowledge of building structural systems and electrical systems operations.
Working knowledge of computer applications (e.g., word processing, email, internet, web-based programs).
SKILLS:
Equipment operation monitoring, troubleshooting, diagnosis, installation, maintenance, and repair.
Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively deal with a broad variety of people and prepare quality correspondence.
Excellent critical thinking skills and good judgment; able to effectively analyze situations and solve problems.
Effective interpersonal skills; able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Strong organizational skills; able to prioritize, plan work, and handle multiple tasks.
Excellent customer service skills.

Additional Desirable Qualifications:
Knowledge of Building Automation Systems control and operation of associated devices.
Experience with centrifugal chillers, steam absorption chillers and/or cooling towers.
Experience in leading, directing, training and supervising employees.
EPA certified for Type II, III, IV or universal refrigerants.
