    Heather H. Director Of Benefits

NMU provides benefits designed to support the physical, mental, and financial wellbeing of our employees and their families.

Our medical coverage is provided through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.  The plan provides nationwide coverage with a low deductible of just $500 for a single person and $1,000 for a two-person or family plan.  Our $2,000/$4,000 coinsurance maximum caps the patient's annual out-of-pocket costs for services like labs, imaging, and surgery.  Copays are $20 for office visits, specialist visits, urgent care, and chiropractic care.  The copay for a visit to the emergency room is $150.  Prescription drug coverage is administered through CVS.  Copays for 30-day supplies are $15 for generics, $30 for preferred brand, and $60 for non-preferred.  For 90-day supplies, the cost doubles, providing an extra month of medication at no-cost.

Not only is access to our NMU Health Center convenient, often offering same-day services, but it's also amazing for your financial wellness.  Visits to the NMU Health Center for folks on the NMU insurance are $0.  This includes primary care visits, visits for acute care, and lab work - even if it's ordered by an outside physician!  Filling your prescriptions at the NMU pharmacy can help your wallet too.  30-day and 90-day fills are either $10 or $20 - a huge discount compared to filling at any other retail pharmacy.

NMU also provides dental insurance at no-cost to eligible employees and per Collective Bargaining Agreements, no-cost to some family members too.  Other Collective Bargaining Agreements require a small premium to cover more than one family member on our dental coverage.  Vision coverage is provided at no-cost to eligible employees and their families!

Our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is fully paid for by NMU and offers 8 counseling sessions per person, per issue, per calendar year absolutely free.  The EAP also offers free one-on-one coaching for health as well as financial needs and offers a plethora of professional development opportunities.

NMU provides ample leave banks to support employees in their ability to step away from work for personal needs, personal illness, to care for a family member, to enjoy a Holiday, and to enjoy a work/life balance.  Short-term and long-term disability is also available and fully paid for by NMU with no employee contribution required.

Our retirement contributions are highly competitive.  All eligible employees receive retirement contributions to their 403(b) account with TIAA without the requirement of an employee match.  Some employees, per their Collective Bargaining Agreement, are eligible for an employer match above and beyond the base contribution.  Employees are fully vested in their retirement immediately upon hire.

    NMU also offers:
Hello Heart, Hinge Health, Life Insurance, Flexible Spending Accounts, Supplemental Insurance Coverage (Accident, Critical Illness, Hospital Indemnity, Long-Term Care), 100% tuition coverage for employees, their spouses, and their dependent children, childcare assistance, and public student loan forgiveness.

If you have any questions about any of the items mentioned, please reach out to me for more information.  Thank you for your interest in NMU benefits!
