NMU supports our growth through a variety of events and opportunities throughout the year.
Most of the departments that I've been in have had at least some money set aside for professional development. Some years, I have been able to go to a regional or national conference, other years I've completed some online webinar trainings or refreshers.
At a more local level, NMU plans Staff Development Days that are open to professionals on campus to learn new, or enhance current skills. Additionally, various departments on campus and local/UP organizations often have events and trainings on campus, which occasionally are open to NMU staff as well.
You could also get involved in organizations aimed at professional growth in the community or seek out volunteer opportunities. NMU has student programs that recruit faculty/staff to become mentors, such as our Student Leader Fellowship Program, or you can become a staff advisor to one of our nearly 300 student organizations.
