Position Title: Dispatcher

Department:  NMU Police Department

Term of Assignment: Continuing

Term End Date, If Applicable:             

FLSA Status:   Non-Exempt = overtime eligible

Work Schedule: Traditionally, either Sunday-Wednesday 3:00 pm-1:00 am or Wednesday-Saturday, 3:00 pm-1:00 am based on seniority

Salary: Hourly rate: $16.10

Travel: Less than 10%

Brief Statement of Duties

Brief Statement of Duties: Perform the duties of a police department dispatcher. Receive calls/walk-ins from the university community and visitors regarding a wide range of emergencies and non-emergency situations and relay accurate information to the appropriate personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: High School Graduation or Equivalent

Discipline/Degree Area: 

Required Specialized Training/Certifications: 

Required Minimum Work Experience:  Three years of office experience or an Associate's Degree or two years' coursework leading to a Bachelor's Degree.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties: 

Excellent oral and written communication and comprehension skills.
Ability to work well under pressure and emergency situations.
Ability to provide excellent customer service during stressful situations.
Ability to work effectively with frequent and multiple interruptions with accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to retain and recall information and accurately communicate this information to others.
Ability to exercise good judgment.
Complex problem solving abilities.
Good interpersonal skills.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

Additional Desirable Qualifications: 

Experience working in a dispatch operations.
Strong computer skills.
