Position Title: Food Service Worker II-Barista Specialist or Barista Lead

Department:  Dining Services-Starbucks

Term of Assignment: Continuing

Term End Date, If Applicable:             

FLSA Status:   Non-Exempt = overtime eligible

Work Schedule: Variable shifts/days/locations including afternoon and weekend shifts; the shift start times are between the hours of 6:30 am and 12:00 pm.

One position available with the potential to be filled at any of the listed levels consistent with the selected applicant's experience. Levels include: Food Service Worker II-Barista Specialist or Barista Lead.

Salary: Food Service Worker II-Barista Specialist: $17.34 staring; $18.21 working; Barista Lead: $17.71 starting; $18.58 working

Travel: No travel

Brief Statement of Duties

Brief Statement of Duties: Food Service Worker II-Barista Specialist:
Under routine supervision, perform a variety of duties necessary for daily maintenance, operation and supervision of employees in Starbucks and Retail Stores. Provide skills and perform duties necessary to lead and engage the staff in the preparation and resale of various beverages, food and retail items, ensuring operational success through excellent customer service and maintaining store standards. Perform a variety of similar retail and catering service duties in the summer as determined by operational needs of the Dining Services Department.

Barista Lead:
Under routine supervision, perform and direct others in a variety of duties necessary to lead the daily maintenance, operation and supervision of employees in Starbucks and Retail Stores. Provide skills and perform duties necessary to lead, train, adhere to Starbucks standards, and engage the staff in the preparation and resale of various beverages, food and retail items, ensuring operational success through excellent customer service, consistency, and maintaining store standards. Perform and lead a variety of similar retail duties in the summer as determined by operational needs of the Dining Services Department.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: High School Graduation or Equivalent

Discipline/Degree Area: 

Required Specialized Training/Certifications:  Food Service Worker II-Barista Specialist and Barista Lead:
Valid driver's license (required for 12-month positions).
Food Service Sanitation Certification (ServSafe or MI) or ability to obtain within six months
from the start of employment.

Barista Lead:
Completion of Starbucks training certification upon hire.

Required Minimum Work Experience:  Food Service Worker II-Barista Specialist:
Eighteen months' retail and/or retail restaurant experience one of which must be working in a "Barista" concept retail store.

Barista Lead:
Three years' retail and/or retail restaurant experience, eighteen months of which must be working in a "Barista" concept retail store.
Leadership ability demonstrated by experience.

Food Service Worker II-Barista Specialist and Barista Lead:
One year experience utilizing computerized cash registers and handling cash.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties: 

Barista Lead:
Starbucks beverage crafting-Knowledge of proper techniques, procedures, and equipment.
Starbucks standard operating procedures-Knowledge of and experience adhering to.

Food Service Worker II-Barista Specialist and Barista Lead:
Customer and Personal Service-Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes guest needs assessment, meeting quality store standards for services and evaluation of guest satisfaction.
Strong time management skills as demonstrated by experience.
Politeness, being courteous, tactful and helpful in dealing with the public and members of the University community.
Active Listening-Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
Instructing-Teaching others how to do something.
Speaking-Talking to others to convey information effectively.
Service Orientation-Actively looking for ways to help people.
Social Perceptiveness-Being aware of others reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
Ability to sign a confidentiality agreement.
Ability to assess customer orders, through the mobile ordering platform or store location, and expedite beverage/food to the guest at the hand off counter or mobile order pickup location.
Oral Comprehension-The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
Manual Dexterity-The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
Problem Sensitivity-The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
The physical capability to perform all of the duties and responsibilities of the positions, with or without reasonable accommodations.

ServSafe Food Service Sanitation Certification.
Leadership ability demonstrated by experience.

Barista Lead:
Currently or previously in a NMU Barista Specialist or Barista position.
Willingness to improve skill level.
