Position Title: Principal Administrative Assistant

Department:  Seaborg Center

Term of Assignment: Grant term

Term End Date, If Applicable:  October 31, 2025           

FLSA Status:   Non-Exempt = overtime eligible

Work Schedule: Traditionally Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Salary: $15.85

Travel: No travel

Brief Statement of Duties

Brief Statement of Duties: Provide direct administrative support for the Director, staff and programs of the Glenn T. Seaborg Mathematics and Science Center and Region 15 of the MiSTEM Network. Programs include student programs, educator professional development, resource clearinghouse, and community/industry involvement connected to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics pathways. Other tasks include hiring and supervising student staff, completing Minors on Campus requirements, payroll processing, budget reporting, invoicing, maintenance of digital platforms (i.e. Google Suite, list-serves, program registration, websites, social media, etc.), organizing/recording data and files, staff meetings, office management, scheduling rooms, event set up and check-in, and other related duties. Interact and communicate with Northern Michigan University students, staff, and faculty members, the general public, and outside agencies.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: High School Graduation or Equivalent

Required Specialized Training/Certifications: 

Required Minimum Work Experience:  Three years of progressive office work experience or an Associate's Degree or two years coursework leading to a Bachelor's Degree.

Ability to work on occasional weekend and evening for department programs.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

Additional Desirable Qualifications: 

Familiarity with STEM education programs, K-12 initiatives, or a higher education setting.
Understanding of STEM workforce development and industry partnerships.
Experience supporting STEM outreach, advocacy, or grant-funded initiatives.
Experience coordinating logistics for workshops, summer camps, and/or professional development events.
Familiarity with event registration software and participant tracking tools.
Ability to assist with marketing and promotional materials for STEM programs.
Experience compiling and summarizing program data for reports or presentations.
Ability to track participant engagement and program outcomes for grant reporting.
Knowledge of survey tools and basic data analysis techniques.
