Position Title: Resident Director

Department:  Housing & Residence Life

Term of Assignment: Continuing

Term End Date, If Applicable:      

FLSA Status:   Exempt = not eligible for overtime

Work Schedule: Two positions available; months employed: 10; live-in position; evening and weekend work required.

Salary: Targeted 10 month salary: $37,156

Travel: Less than 10%

Brief Statement of Duties

Brief Statement of Duties: Responsible for developing a living-learning environment in the residence hall to which they are assigned which is characterized by a sense of community among students through the house model, personal development opportunities, effective staff performance and meaningful interaction with other facets of the University. The Resident Director is expected to work independently. 12-month staff will have the opportunity to supervise other student staff and work with summer operations.

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree

Required Minimum Work Experience:  One year of experience as a resident adviser or student service supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties: 

Knowledge of residence hall operations, policies and procedures.
Knowledge of student development concepts.
Possess strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to prepare quality correspondence, reports and other written materials.
Possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships.
Demonstrate initiative and experience in community development.
Ability to work with various computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, internet and web-based programs).
Possess highly effective critical thinking skills, good judgement and ability to effectively analyze and solve problems.
Possess strong organizational skills and ability to plan and coordinate the work of others.
Ability to work independently.
Conscientious and self-motivated.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

Additional Desirable Qualifications: 

Master's Degree.
One year experience as a senior resident adviser.
Experience supervising student staff in a university setting.
Experience working with an orientation program, summer conferences, or supervising a residence hall front desk.
Experience working with Living Learning Communities.
Experience in strengthening inclusive communities and facilitating/planning professional development on diversity with paraprofessional staff.
