Position Title: Temporary Production Cook

Department:  Dining Services-Central Office

Term of Assignment: Term

FLSA Status:   Non-Exempt = overtime eligible

Work Schedule: Variable days/hours/locations; between the hours of 5:30 am and 11:00 pm, as determined by the needs of the operation.

Salary: Hourly rate: $18.59

Travel: No travel

Brief Statement of Duties

Brief Statement of Duties: This is a posting for part-time temporary positions which are used to supplement and augment the regular NMU workforce. This position is primarily responsible for food preparation and cooking. The length of hire might vary from 1 day to 4 months.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: High School Graduation or Equivalent

Required Specialized Training/Certifications:  Food Service Sanitation Certification (ServSafe) or the ability to obtain within six months from the start of employment.

Required Minimum Work Experience:  Eighteen months of food service experience in kitchen production while working in a quantity food service setting (e.g. Fast Casual, Quick Service Restaurant experience, large production retail chain/branded setting).

Customer and Personal Service-Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Instructing-Teaching others how to do something.
Speaking-Talking to others to convey information effectively.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

Additional Desirable Qualifications: 

Food Service Sanitation Certification.
Leadership ability demonstrated by experience.
Willingness to improve skill level.
Experience in gourmet/banquet/catering cooking/preparation.
Vocational education training in baking, cooking, salad making, etc.

Philosophy
Brief Statement of Duties: The course load will be 12 credits per semester, with multiple preps each term. The teaching responsibilities will include various applied ethics courses (computer, legal, medical) as well as a course in social and political philosophy. There will also be additional service responsibilities in support of the department, college, and university. The appointment will require having an active research agenda. This is a campus-based position. This position is currently not available for sponsorship.

Plan, order, receive, schedule, assign and assist in the management of production and serving of food and/or beverages and other responsibilities of a large-volume food service operation and catering. Ensure that established University and/or Department policies and procedures are maintained and high-quality customer service is delivered.

Lead Cook

Dining Services-Central Office
Under routine supervision, perform and direct others in a variety of duties necessary to lead the preparation of meals and specials in a residential dining operation. Provide skills necessary to lead production areas in residential dining. Supervise the work and maintain service area in a clean, safe and orderly condition. Oversee and prepare a wide variety of soups, sides, salads, entrees, desserts, baked and pastry items; use a variety of kitchen equipment; assist and oversee the kitchen production, ordering and inventory of products, following standardized recipe files; and make recommendations for change/improvement.
