Position Title: Trng Coord-Public Safety Inst

Department:  NMU Police Department

Term of Assignment: Continuing

Term End Date, If Applicable:             

FLSA Status:   Non-Exempt = overtime eligible

Work Schedule: Traditionally Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with occasional evening and weekend work required.

Salary: Targeted Salary Range: $63,000-$65,000

Travel: 10-25%

Brief Statement of Duties

Brief Statement of Duties: Coordinate the Public Safety Institute and Regional Police Academy. Identify, develop and implement training programs for the law enforcement and corrections officers of the Upper Peninsula.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree

Discipline/Degree Area: 

Required Specialized Training/Certifications:  Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) licensable.

Required Minimum Work Experience:  Three years' law enforcement experience.
Three years' experience as a recognized trainer.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties: 

Understanding of the role in-service training plays in the law enforcement profession.
Understanding of the criminal justice system and the changing training needs and requirements of law enforcement.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent time management skills.
Ability to decipher and monitor budget expenditures and reports and make recommendations.
Ability to create new processes to enhance the overall functions of the Public Safety Institute.
Ability to successfully use a variety of computer software applications and possess the technical ability to include the use of technology in the delivery of instructional material.
Ability to work with no supervision.
Ability to maintain a positive departmental image but also to improve the overall image of the university.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships.
